Summer Programs!
We are happy to announce that HARA will be running programs this summer!
Location: Hubbards Rec Centre, Upper Field
Starting the week of July 11th through August 18th
Monday evenings: Run Club (age 7+)
Wednesday evenings: T-Ball (age 4-7)
Thursday evenings: Soccer (age 4-7)

The Hubbards Area Recreation Association (HARA) is working to create recreational opportunities in the area as well as helping to maintain the Hubbards Recreation Centre and the Mill Cove Sports fields. HARA is operated by a volunteer board of directors, who have responsibility for organizing and implementing recreation activities for youth and adults in the community of Hubbards and those communities surrounding it.
Position title: Youth Program Coordinator
Term: 9 weeks
Salary: $15 per hour, 30 hours per week
Location: Hubbards, NS
Reporting to: HARA Board of Directors
Start date: June 13, 2022 (flexible)
Description: HARA is seeking a summer student who will have overall responsibility for planning, organizing and delivering summer recreational programs in the Hubbards community.
The student will work with the HARA Board of Directors, and at times, with other community summer students, to support community activities, such as:
- supporting community events (parades, beach days, summer closing party);
- design and delivery of summer camp programs for children and youth;
- youth program delivery at Hubbards Recreation Centre, including identifying and working with volunteer coaches, coordinating schedules, registration, and delivering programs;
- communications activities, including design and circulation of program promotional materials, managing HARA social media accounts, website updates, etc.;
- volunteer engagement: working with the HARA board to conduct community outreach, support summer volunteers -coaches, youth etc.;
- database management: taking inventory and developing a database/system for tracking recreational equipment to support and encourage community use
- Providing general administrative support;
- Representing HARA at events or external meetings, when requested;
- Responding to general inquiries; and
- Other duties, depending on experience and interest.
Desired Skills, Capabilities and Experience:
- Post-Secondary or high school student with knowledge of youth coaching and sports programs;
- Recreational program delivery experience essential;
- Experience in an organized sport will be considered an asset as well as knowledge of the basic rules in common team sports;
- Prior experience of working with volunteers would be considered an asset;
- Proven skills as an independent worker and youth leader;
- Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Adobe, internet, e-mail);
- Experience using social media platforms as a way to engage communities, specifically youth, and to create educational awareness campaigns;
- Experience using social media and web platforms (e.g. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Zoom);
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
